I want to thank the gideons for their work and contributions to humanity. When I left school in 1980 I was given a new testament from the gideons and thiught no more. Many years later I read the suggested daily readings. More than twenty years on my life is in duch torment that I did not wish to live. I start to do my reasearch as to what had happened to me for 18 years I have suffered. But did not know where my life was heading. I eventually found comfort in my gideons new testament. I had neglected my faith and my own well being my entire life . But found something in GALATIANS 6: 7/9 you shall reap what you sow I cannot stress how true this is . But my gideons NT	is giving me hopefor the future . All the answers I ever needed were allways there its been a long and painfull journey to here . Nut all I ever had to do is read my NT its allways been .

Once again thankyou for the great work you do with bible ditribution you never know how an impact it may havd on someones life like mine. May god bless you all as now another tear of joy falls instead of sorrow.

Last Sunday a minister on the Shetlands decides to pray for the present coalition government.

"Lord, in these trouble times may all those whom have been elected as MP’s hang together".

"Amen", says a loud voice from the congregation.

"No. no , my brother misunbderstands me. I wish them to experience concord".

"Concord, rope, string, any cord, it does na’ matter as long as they allllll hang".

Peace brother,

What you say also describes the world of the 12th century, the Catholic Church and spirituality at the time - corruption and a falling away of faith in God. Then God spoke to a little poor man - Francis of Assisi - who not only 'righted' the church (by a loving and faithful example!) but literally turned the world upside down - like St. Paul- in love and wonder at God. You're examination of conscience was focused on loving others - the most important thing we can do after loving God. Francis often said, "We preach with our lives (by love and concern for others) and, if need be, by our words."

This world is God's - He made it and made it good, designed it for His good purposes and has plans to restore and magnify it's goodness in the future. Christ redeems us, body and soul, and, through us, wants to do the same to the world. If I am the 'Temple of God' as Jesus says then Jesus is everywhere, always and the celebration of love, life - all the good gifts of God - should be going on all of the time! Everyday is Christmas because every day we receive countless and priceless gifts from God. Everyday is Christmas because every day, with determination and renewed hope, Jesus comes to us to revolutionize our lives and pour His limitless treasures within us - to share with the world.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. Obviously, through you, God inspired me.

Peace and good!

Brother you are definitely not alone! I read somewhere that 'Negligence is an extreme thing'. This is especially true when time is pressing - which, for believers, it always is! What to do? I fall back on the words of the publican sinner, 'God be merciful to me a sinner!', a prayer said throughout the millenia and OFTEN said even today. In this prayer, you get PRAYER, SCRIPTURE and the work starts as soon as the grace of God is resting deeply, powerfully, profoundly in one's heart - the work of love, bringing God's love to everything we do and everyone we meet. God bless you brother and thanks for your thoughts that both convict and convert. Your brother and servant in Christ, brother Joseph, SFO

Thank you, brother, for sharing this thought. It reminds me of all the old statues of Francis, holding a human skull (or standing near one) - the immediacy of our mortality and the fact that "right now is 'at that time'. I read a story from the Desert Fathers in which two hermit brothers are working in their common garden and one suddenly says to the other 'What if the Lord came back right now?!' It says they both burst into tears, dropped their tools and went into their cells to fervently and urgently seek God in prayer. Pray for me brother to truly take what you shared to heart so that 'forsaking all, I can follow Christ.' Your brother, always, in Christ. brother Joseph, SFO

Thanks for the scripture - great! Killing the 'old self', I find, is as exhausting as a hand to hand fight in which you try and strangle 'it' while it tries to strangle you! It is easier to just go with the flow but then Christ said the way to life is not only 'straight and narrow' but few even find it. The hope of a new man, a new life, of freedom and life - abundant and eternal - make it all worthwhile. This is especially true since we find it in the person of Jesus. Until next time. Peace and all good to you! brother Joseph, SFO

Thank you Bro Joseph for your contribution. As I read your words a passage from St Paul came to mind:-

I die every day! That is as certain, brothers and sisters, as my boasting of you--a boast that I make in Christ Jesus our Lord. If with merely human hopes I fought with wild animals at Ephesus, what would I have gained by it? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." Do not be deceived: "Bad company ruins good morals."
(1Co 15:31-33)

How willing am I to put my old self to death daily by denying it those things that sustain it?
